Tom Thomazin, M.S., LMFT Tom has served as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT 32218) since 1995, providing counseling for individuals, couples, and families. As President, CEO, and Executive Director of Genesis Counseling Service since 2018, he oversees clinical services across all four locations while continuing to counsel clients in Victorville, San Bernardino, and Riverside. Tom holds a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University, has taught as an adjunct professor, served 16 years with Riverside County Department of Mental Health, and continues to serve as a teaching pastor. His specialties include marriage restoration, family and parenting issues, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and pastoral counseling. President, CEO & Executive Director San Bernardino, Riverside, and Victorville Locations Statement of Faith The staff at Genesis have historically served the larger community of faith as trusted Christian professionals who come along side of pastors and ministry leaders to help them with their “flock” and the unique population in their care. The sole basis of our Christian beliefs is the Bible, God’s infallible written Word, the sixty-six books of the Old and New Testaments. We believe that it was uniquely, verbally and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit, and that it was written without error (inerrant) in the original manuscripts. It is the supreme and final authority in all matters on which it speaks. As Christian professionals, we agree in those areas of doctrinal teaching on which, historically, there has been general agreement among all true Christians. We explicitly affirm our belief in basic Bible teachings, as follows: 1. There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. 2. There is one true God, eternally existing in three persons-Father, Son and Holy Spirit-each of whom possesses equally all the attributes of Deity and the characteristics of personality. 3. Jesus Christ is God, the living Word, who became flesh through His miraculous conception by the Holy Spirit and His virgin birth. Hence, He is perfect Deity and true humanity united in one person forever. 4. He lived a sinless life and voluntarily atoned for the sins of men by dying on the cross as their substitute, thus satisfying divine justice and accomplishing salvation for all who trust in Him alone. 5. He rose from the dead in the same body, though glorified, in which He lived and died. 6. He ascended bodily into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God the Father, where He, the only mediator between God and man, continually makes divine intercession for His own. 7. Man was originally created in the image of God. He sinned by disobeying God; thus, alienated from his Creator. That historic fall brought all mankind under divine condemnation. 8. Man’s nature is corrupted, and he is thus totally unable to please God. Every man is in need of regeneration and renewal by the Holy Spirit. 9. The Salvation of man is wholly a work of God’s free grace and is not the work, in whole or in part, of human works or goodness or religious ceremony. God imputes His righteousness to those who put their faith in Christ alone for their salvation and thereby justifies them in His sight. 10. It is the privilege of all who are born again of the Spirit to be assured of their salvation from the very moment in which they trust Christ as their Savior. This assurance is not based upon any kind of human merit but is produced by the witness of the Holy Spirit, who confirms in the believer the testimony of God in His written Word. 11. The Holy Spirit has come into the world to reveal and glorify Christ and to apply the saving work of Christ to men. He convicts and draws sinners to Christ, imparts new life to them, continually indwells them from the moment of spiritual birth and seals them until the day of redemption. His fullness, power and control are appropriated in the believer’s life by faith. 12. Every believer is called to live so in the power of the indwelling Spirit that he will not fulfill the lust of the flesh but will bear fruit to the glory of God. 13. Jesus Christ is the Head of the Church, His Body, which is composed of all men, living and dead, who have been joined to Him through saving faith. 14. God admonishes His people to assemble together regularly for worship, for participation in ordinances, for edification through the Scriptures and for mutual encouragement. 15. At physical death the unbeliever enters immediately into eternal, conscious separation from the Lord and awaits the resurrection of this body to everlasting judgment and condemnation. 16. Jesus Christ will come again to the earth-personally, visibly and bodily-to consummate history and the eternal plan of God. 17. The Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to proclaim the gospel throughout the world and to disciple men of every nation. The fulfillment of that Great Commission requires that all worldly and personal ambition be subordinate to a total commitment to “Him who loved us and gave Himself for us.” 18. Marriage is designed by God to be the union of one man and one woman for life. (Final Draft Awaiting Board Approval as of 2026-06-16) Services & Fees General Information Genesis Counseling Service is an independent, nonprofit organization—not affiliated with any single denomination, church, government agency, or public institution. Our counselors combine accredited, professional training with a strong foundation in Christian faith and ministry, creating a safe, confidential environment where people of all backgrounds are welcomed, respected, and cared for with compassion and professionalism. Fee Information Fees are assessed on a sliding scale based on combined household income. The current range is from $60 – $110 per counseling session. Some churches assist with counseling fees. Talk with your Pastor. Counseling Services Genesis offers individual, pre-marital, marital, family, children and group therapy. We are available to address relational and family problems, as well as such issues as depression and/or anxiety, sexual, emotional and physical abuse, separation and divorce, parenting problems, stress management, life changing losses, post traumatic stress, physical illness and pain, grief and loss, and spiritual issues, as well as such issues as: - Stress Management - Marital conflict, Separation & Divorce - Depression/Anxiety - Pre-Marital - Blended Family - Parenting - Child and Adolescents - Behavioral Problems - Grief and Loss - Codependency/Boundaries - Physical, Sexual, Emotional Abuse - Adoption - Peer Relationships - Biblical Faith/Spiritual Maturity - Sexual Addiction - Anger - Post-Traumatic Stress - Self-esteem - Peer Relationships - Self-Harm Church Relations Counseling Support Sometimes people need more intensive counseling than what the church is able to provide. That’s where Genesis can step in and support you by bringing life-changing help to those individuals, couples, and families who could benefit from our counseling services. Many pastors and churches who refer to Genesis offer to pay for a portion of the counseling fees for the people that they refer. In such cases, the client usually pays a small co-pay. After the amount allocated by the church is reached, most of these clients choose to continue in counseling, paying the whole fee themselves, having experienced the benefits of counseling. Additionally, Genesis can offer you an arrangement where church staff and members may receive counseling at a reduced fee. We’ve served as the counseling arm of several churches, missionary organizations and Christian Camps throughout the region. This takes the counseling burden off those organizations, freeing up leaders to focus on aspects of the ministry that fits their skill set best. Such an arrangement may be right for you. What can I expect at my first appointment? As a potential or new client, you may have some questions about what to expect in counseling. The beginning steps may seem quite intimidating—sharing personal thoughts, feelings, and beliefs with a complete stranger would be enough to raise anxiety in anyone. Rest assured those of us at Genesis Counseling Service desire to walk with you through any struggles you may have. What is the first step? The first step is to call 909.890.2299. One of our staff will ask for a brief statement of your concerns, get contact information, set a fee, and set up a time for your initial intake appointment. During this first appointment we will gather vital information, discuss your desires regarding counseling, and answer any questions you may have. Within two business days of your initial visit, we will contact you to set up your next appointment. What is the initial session going to be like? Please note that Genesis does not bill insurance.Fees for service will be collected at the time of your visit. ( If you have questions as to whether your insurance might reimburse some of your fees at Genesis, please discuss this our staff prior to your first visit ) When you arrive for your initial session, you will be asked to: 1. Fill out several brief forms. 2. Your intake counselor will go over with you our policies and procedures, as well as our confidentiality statement. If you have any concerns about the initial paper work, you may address them at this time. 3. Your intake counselor will gather some background information/personal history and then discuss with you the concerns that bring you to counseling. This is a time for you to ask questions and to express any concerns about the counseling process. 4. After your intake appointment, the Clinical Director will review your information and assign a counselor who best fits your needs. 5. This is also a time for you to ask questions and express concerns you may have about your counseling experience. 6. Our Clinical Director will review this helpful information and assign a counselor who fits your needs most appropriately. What is a typical session like at Genesis Counseling Service? Counseling sessions at Genesis Counseling Service typically last 45-50 minutes.During this time you and your counselor will discuss the concerns that bring you to counseling. Many of our clients are Christians and prefer meeting with a counselor who shares a common belief system. Others enjoy the benefit of meeting with a Christian counselor who is also a trained professional. Our goal is to create a safe environment for each of our clients while remaining committed to truly Christian principles in our counseling. Often counseling involves looking at current behavior and thought patterns as well as possibly exploring past relationships or events. Many of our clients want to address spiritual concerns from a biblical perspective, which all of our counselors are eager to do. What do I do as a client? One important aspect of counseling is your level of participation. The common phrase “You get out what you put in” definitely applies here. At times, the counseling process may be challenging and may bring up issues and feelings that you would rather avoid. However, by addressing and dealing with these areas you are beginning to take steps toward growth and healing. What else do I need to know? All counselors at Genesis Counseling Service adhere to a strict code of ethics, including confidentiality. In order to provide a safe and open place for you to share your struggles, Genesis Counseling Service counselors will not share your personal information or anything discussed in session without your permission. (Certain limitations on confidentiality do apply—see your counselor for an elaboration of these areas.) We here at Genesis Counseling Service are excited about the possibility of working with you. We want this to be a warm and inviting experience for you; as such, if you have any questions about our agency or counselors, don’t hesitate to ask. We would be glad to answer any questions you may have. What if I'm not sure counseling is right for me? You don't need to have everything figured out before asking for help. If you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or struggling to move forward, an initial conversation can help determine whether counseling is the right next step. Can I receive counseling even if I'm not a Christian? Absolutely! While our organization is grounded in Christian values, we welcome people from all backgrounds and beliefs, meeting each person with compassion, respect, and professional care.
